Neopercularis Hogfish

Neopercularis Hogfish

(Bodianus  neopercularis)
The Neopercularis Hogfish, not to be confused with the Opercularis Hogfish, is almost exclusively found in the Marshall Islands. Sharing the deepwater habitat with other rare species like Dr. Seuss, these incredibly rare fish only surface a few times a year in the trade.
Among saltwater fish, there are very few fish that possess true red coloration. Sure theres a lot of redish fish like flame angels or juvenile red coris wrasse, but almost all are actually shades of orange. The Neopercualris is pure, true, red with solid white stripes to contrast, a spectacular color combination that few fish have. It's easy to see why collectors value these fish so much. To add to their appeal, Neopercularis are incredibly hardy and have a ton of personality! Being apart of the wrasse family, Neopercualris Hogs adapt incredibly well to captivity. They eat almost anything with gusto and can hold their own in aggressive tanks. This being said though, they do grow to around 8" and will eat any small shrimps and crabs. All around, this fish will make a great addition to any reef or fish only tank!
