The Aiptasia-Eating Filefish (Acreichthys tomentosus), also commonly known as the Bristletail Filefish, is a specialized marine fish valued for its effectiveness in controlling pest Aiptasia anemones.

The Aiptasia-Eating Filefish is typically found in coral-rich environments, including lagoons and reef flats. It favors areas with plenty of hiding spots and coral structures where it can graze on small invertebrates. This filefish tends to inhabit spaces with a mix of open areas and reef structures, displaying a preference for habitats with suitable crevices for hiding.

Native to the Indo-Pacific region, the Aiptasia-Eating Filefish has a widespread distribution. Its range extends from the eastern coast of Africa, the Red Sea, and the Arabian Peninsula to various locations in the central and western Pacific.

While they may not be the most attractive fish out there, the primary appeal of this filefish for aquarium enthusiasts is its natural appetite for Aiptasia anemones. While every specimen may not immediately target these anemones, they almost always will wit time! To keep these Fish happy and healthy, they should be fed a varied mix of frozen food. they may also take to feeding on Nori and pellets once fully acclimated. It is very common for these fish to hover around the tank, picking at the rocks. While these fish have minimal care requirements, these fish are often subject to mortality from overly aggressive tank mates picking up their tassels or fins. Pick peaceful tankmates and give this fish many crevices to hide in to make it feel secure. These fish overall make great additions to every tank as Aiptesia preventative!
